Houstonians like to see one of their own make a big splash. Two summers ago, Blackberri was featured in a Facebook marketing campaign that first appeared during the Super Bowl.
Ad producers reached out to me after scouting me from social media. She remembers that they wanted her to travel to Austin to film a commercial for them because they loved her content and drag. I thought it was a scam when I first received it. I am happy I answered the call because it ended up being legit.
The entertainer traveled to Austin to film for nine hours. I didn't know when the ad would be released and I didn't know how big it would be.
The scope of the ad campaign was huge and the reaction was instantaneous. The messages started coming in after the ad hit the Superbowl.
People tagged me in pictures and videos. It isn't something you would expect from a Black fat bearded queen. I am happy I got to do it. She told OutSmart that she needed to showcase alternative drag for Middle America, where they might think she is the devil.
The Super Bowl ad began playing on a number of websites. The people were watching it all over the place. She remembers it being kind of crazy.
Blackberri had a prominent following in the Greater Houston area, but the national recognition she gained propelled her even further towards her drag ambitions.
I got a new start. She said she was able to buy a car and buy more costumes. The commercial gave me opportunities that I didn't have before.
Blackberri's life has not slowed down two years after she made her national debut.
I have traveled a lot since the ad. She said everything has been great.
A who's-who list of organizations and people she's worked with recently was named by the glamazon.
The first official emcee was me. The opportunity to help raise money for some great causes was an amazing one. I have been booked to perform on two cruise ships with Jimbo from the show. I have opened for a couple of different places. I have hosted two music artists at the House of Blues. There are only drag shows at warehouse live.
She has kept in touch with her fans here in H-town. She performs frequently at JR's, Hamburger Mary's, ReBar, The Room Bar in North Houston, and occasionally at other places in the city.
Blackberri keeps her future projects under wraps, but she does give a few clues.
I am a part of a national campaign for a popular company. I can't say what it's for, but it's huge She says that it is just as big as the Facebook campaign.
Blackberri has a page on the Facebook.com.
