World Athletics wins award for online competition platform

The Web Competition Information System (WebCIS) was recognised as the best digital technology in the world at The Sports Technology Awards.

WebCIS is a ground-breaking, online solution that offers real-time event data, video, athlete profiles, Infographics and automated commentary to content producers such as broadcasters, commentators and journalists.

During the Tokyo Olympic Games, the technology solution was available for the athletics competition.

The new system can be accessed anywhere in the world in real time.

An Dang Duy, Chief Information Officer at World athletics, said that the team is very pleased that the sport industry awarded their Web Competition Information System in the very disputed category of 'best digital technology'.

The project has taken input from communications and broadcast. The work from the statistics team and the new data we are collecting helped.

While we are still at the beginning of our digital journey, we are already proud that features such as live generation of sport commentaries and data Infographics have been acknowledged as world premier innovations with a bright future for upcoming major championships.

Tech-led innovation in sports is celebrated by the Sports Technology Awards. More than 50 experts are on the judging panel.

The judges said that the entry was exciting for many reasons, but its impact was commendable. The solution provided by this is smart and sustainable. We hope to see its growth.

World Athletics and Wonderly were announced as the winners of the Best Digital Technology category at the awards ceremony in New York.
