The Way of Water can't be watched exclusively on Disney+.

A number of record books have been filled with James Cameron's film, inking its name in many of them.

The third-highest-grossing film of all time is the film.

This history-making run has led to quite the up and down journey when it comes to a streaming release, with a Disney+ debut now officially dated with a Warner Bros-sized caveat.

The streaming rights for 20th Century's theatrical releases with Warner Bros. will be shared by Disney and Warner Bros., meaning that the movie can't be streamed exclusively on Disney+.

On June 7th, Disney+ and Max will be the first places to see the sequel to James CAMERON.

The end of this deal is marked by The Way of Water, which explains why Disney+ and Max shared release in the first place.

The Way of Water can't be branded as a Disney+ exclusive because it will come to both services on the same day.

The streaming debut of Ron's Gone Wrong and West Side Story were shared by Disney+ with the release of the movie.

As Disney continues to limit which of its mature content comes to Disney+, most past cases of the shared deal have seen movies split between the Disney-owned streaming services, such as when The King's Man came to both services in February.

The premiere of Prey was hosted on Disney+ in the US and internationally due to a deal between Disney and Star that brought other content to Disney+.

Although Prey was part of the 20th Century, it did not see a theatrical run.

Is This the Beginning of a New Era for Disney?

Content walls have begun to come down as Hollywood continues its review of the streaming model.

Disney CEO Bob Iger has had to get creative with all the studios trying to cut costs.

As the company tries to get back into the black, Iger told shareholders, they will consider licensing the product.

The ending of this deal may seem to give Disney powers that are not in line with the new strategy of the House of Mouse.

That is not the case. Disney can license properties on a case-by-case basis, instead of having to share some of the streaming rights for free.

Disney will no longer be tied down in the streaming world because of the ending of the Fox deal. Bob Iger and the studio can now make changes to their streaming strategy as they please.
