Unbound Gravel week stacked with community activities

There is a lot for residents to do during Unbound Gravel week.

The All Things Gravel expo will take over the 600 and 700 blocks of Mechanic starting Thursday after the Gravel Cycling Hall of Fame ceremony. Over 300 vendors will be involved in the event.

There will be a film premiere at the expo.

The Lyon County History Center will have packet pickup starting at 10 am Friday. There will be live broadcasts from the History Center.

The Unbound Gravel 350 race starts at 3 pm Friday. The Finish Line Party begins at noon on Commercial Street, but residents can watch riders at the Kansas Turnpike's cattle pens exit.

The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday.

A record field of 4,000 riders is expected at Unbound this weekend, but that isn't the only reason for excitement. The field is once again worldwide this year, with all 50 states and US territories included, as well as riders from over 40 countries involved, according to the athlete services manager. There is a strong contingent from the local area.
