WOW! latest telco to make YouTube TV its primary video offering

WOW! is going to stop selling traditional video services and will offer a virtual version of YouTube TV as a dedicated TV product.

The terms of the agreement were not made public.

This year, WOW has become the second major telco to elevateYouTube TV to its main TV offering. Frontier Communications made a similar announcement in March as it focused attention on its fiber internet product, although unlike WOW the telco said it would continue to provide other video services.

The vMPVD charge can be integrated into a customer's monthly telco bill. Plans call for a migration of WOW's residential video customers and phase out of other video services starting this summer when the company will stop marketing and selling its tv services across its footprint

The company will maintain support of its current video services even though the base can choose to switch to YouTube TV. WOW had over half a million high-speed internet customers as of March 31,23. The network has 1.9 million customers.

The marketing, sales and billing integration process for YouTube TV is expected to go live this summer, but the company wouldn't give any information about when it would be done or how much it would cost

Special promotional offers to both new and existing subscribers will be included in the migration process ofWOW!

WOW plans to offer current and prospective residential video customers special promotional pricing, but no details have been released. The average cost of a monthly subscription to YouTube TV is $70.08. When Frontier decided to offer YouTube TV, there was a $10 per month discount for 12 months for new customers and a $15 per month discount for existing customers.

The move for WOW comes as other telcos and smaller video providers are putting greater focus on high- value broadband subscribers and deemphasizing expensive legacy video services in the face of rising costs. Among other features, MyBundle offers through its more than 150 broadband service provider partners.

In responses to Fierce, WOW said that the decision to stop traditional video was a key change in strategy.

Pay TV is changing and it shouldn't be a surprise. WOW said via email that video content is very expensive. The new video strategy will allow us to deliver the best video service at the best price to our customers.

WOW said customers want more video choice and value bundled offerings.

Consumers have told us that they want more control over their video experience. WOW told Fierce that they are a great partner because they invest a lot in the product.

The Sunday Ticket package from the National Football League will be exclusive to YouTube TV this year, with games an add-on option as well as access a la carte via its YouTube Primetime Channels.

There are more than 100 channels in the live streaming TV lineup, as well as Spanish-language packages and features.

WOW is one of the service providers that won for YouTube TV, which had surpassed 5 million users.
