4 things you should do after a job interview, according to Harvard

The job interview is long and tiring. The need to earn a living is combined with the need to be anxious just before an exam. It is important to know how to navigate in a fashion that is more directed and clear when you are going on a series of job interviews.

According to Art Markman, a professor of psychology and marketing, there are a few things you can do to put yourself over the edge in the job interview process, and up your chances of getting it.

This is the first thing. You can write to thank the person.

A professional written communication to say thank you after the interview is a great way to make yourself stand out in a crowded field. It is important to remember that the communication should only focus on saying thanks and not be used as an opportunity to check on when you are likely to hear back from them. It should be easy to say thank you.

There are two Follow-up is smart.

The time to check is when you are likely to hear back from them. It's best to do that at the end of your interview. It's fair to reach out to them with a follow-up message if you don't hear back from them after the deadline. A week is usually a good amount of time to wait, and instead of making your follow-up an impatient demand on knowing the status of things, thank them briefly again for taking the time to speak with you, and offer to work with the organization.

There are three. Maximizing the counter offer.

If you find yourself in a situation where you haven't heard back from your preferred organisation, but have heard back from a different one with a concrete offer on paper, it's okay to let the company that you would prefer work with know about it. It is important that it doesn't sound like a threat. To let them know that you have received a competitive offer but are more interested in the role at their company, is the best way to go.

There are four. If you want feedback, please request it.

It's a good idea to send a thank you note if you don't get the job you're after. You can ask if they have any tips or thoughts on what you could have done better, or how you could have possibly improved. It isn't their job to give it to you, but they should give you a note of what to do next.
