Tomer Cohen: The LinkedIn tech executive who embodies the Israeli dream

Tomer Cohen was already writing computer programs in BASIC when he was 10 years old.

Cohen was raised in the city of Beer Sheba where his parents came from Tunisia to start a new life in Israel. Cohen told the Israeli daily Haaretz that the example they set and their love for education were important to inspire him to pursue his goals.

He said that he was always looking to create and to build solutions for people's needs when he was younger. technological revolutions are an inseparable part of social and cultural evolutions.

In June 2020, at the height of the coronaviruses epidemic, Cohen was appointed to his current position at LinkedIn, making him the most senior Israeli tech executive in the Silicon Valley company.

He is the chief product officer and is responsible for everything that is built. Setting the product strategy for the company is the first part of the process. The product leaders on my team who are leading specific areas, the design team, the business development team, the news and editorial team and then our content production teams are all included.

Cohen moved to California 15 years ago after serving in an intelligence unit in the IDF and earning a degree in computer science from Ben-Gurion University.

When he arrived in the Valley in 2008, he learned about the professional networking site. The buzz was about time spent on the internet and traffic when I went to a lecture at the school. The founder of LinkedIn spoke on stage about how people can reach out to professional communities and get their jobs done, whether that's speeding up their career, partnering, or getting a job.

He said that was the reason they existed. LinkedIn is a community of professionals who come together to share ideas and expertise, but also to help each other.

Cohen is still very connected to Israel even though the Silicon Valley has become his home.
