Artificial intelligence is a hot topic in the town.

AfroTech is taking the topic to the center stage at AfroTech Executive 2023 in Seattle, where Black corporate executives, investors, and tech moguls will meet.

Jonnie Bradley, acting director and responsible artificial intelligence official at the U.S. Department of Energy, and Jessica O. Matthews, founder and CEO of Uncharted, are going to talk about how to take control and maximize artificial intelligence.

There is a risk of bias on the other side of the coin with the use of artificial intelligence. Larry Adams took action in order to fight the danger.

The founder and CEO of X_Stereotype is Adams. It is described on the website as the world's first inclusion operating system.

Adams spoke with AfroTech about how the Black community can use technology to promote inclusion.

The development of X_Stereotype was made possible by my experience with digital product design and marketing. Understanding how data drives experiences and how to leverage large data sets is important.

Years passed before broadband became available. Mobility took over as the main way users interacted with digital experiences. We are in the artificial intelligence phase but we are seeing changes to it in months. We were explaining machine learning when we started. Many people are using generative artificial intelligence to figure out their data strategy.

Real-life people's responses offer insights into emotionality, sentiment, bias, inclusion, authenticity, and purchasing intent. Content creators are being helped to be more inclusive by incorporating human intelligence into training. Over four million points of data has been incorporated by X_Stereotype. I would like to see more inclusion on the training level in order to provide authentic, human-centered, and non-racist insights.

The underlying data is more important than the underlying data. The goal of X_Stereotype is to represent all of us. We don't get artificial intelligence that is biased and incomplete if we put our experiences into it. Without human intelligence, results and decisions can be filled with biases. Stereotypes are being removed from the data we use to make decisions.

Artificial intelligence is only going to be used in more and more applications. We will have a lot of biased information if we don't reliably and consistently train the artificial intelligence with the diversity experiences of everyone. It is important that we take an active role in the data that represents us and lead the way in crafting our digital narrative.
