How to open an advertising agency?

The founding fathers of Talented, Taproot, Grapes, and Fundamental had reflections.

Let the light shine. The human tongue was used to express God's will. When agency founders step out of the shadows of their former places of worship, they get the same warm light.

After a bad day at work, many people wonder if they should open their own shop. They go back to work the next day as soon as they finish the cup of tea. Go ahead and do it.

Pallavi says that she doesn't think it was to prove anything.

When it came to what constituted good advertising, the three of them, including the chief executive officer and chief strategy officer, all agreed on it.

People open advertising agencies to make changes they couldn't do at their previous job. When you work at an agency, you get married to it's culture, and as an individual, you can't change it. You can't start from an empty canvas.

Padhi started Taproot with Agnello Dias in 2009, after working at the same company as an ECD. The agency was bought by Dentsu India.

It is a sentiment of the co-founding member. Dentsu India's vision for creative companies was very different from ours. They need a blank canvas to experiment with.

Money is what it takes to make dreams come true. There are many ways to raise money to start an advertising agency, but most of the agency founders chose not to go the investor route.

The founders of Fundamental, Talented, and Tap root that the advertising agency business is not capital intensive. A place for people to sit with a laptop is all we need.

Padhi says that many people who grew by giving away 30-40% of their agency share are now feeling the pinch because every rupee that comes into the system goes to someone who doesn't do anything. The person in charge of the agency feels the pinch.

The co-founder and CEO of Grapes has an interesting story to tell. After selling only websites for six months, she joined Grapes Software and decided she wanted to work in marketing services.

I'll invest and back you if you need it. Her husband said that she would help wherever she could. In 2015, Grapes Software became Grapes Digital and in 2021, it became Grapes.

It is only tables, chairs, laptops, and serious brains that listen to the Beatles song.

An agency is not an agency without a client. Getting that first client can sometimes be the most difficult challenge for newcomers.

For a long time, Grapes was the second agency to Maruti SuzukiNexa, while Hakuhodo was the main character. It taught us a lot and we did well. Homeshop 18 and Pepperfry were the first two clients.

One of the first clients that comes on board is the one who trusts the founder of the agency. It's good.

The Times of India allowed us to demonstrate our creativity. Talented see the first three believers.

Employees are the agency's first believers. People who leave their well-paying job to join a youngling. It's difficult to persuade people to join a new agency.

According to Saurabh of Fundamental, people want to join people and not agencies. It was something that happened in the past and seems to have come back again.

Talented and Fundamental chose to hire experienced people, while Taproot chose to hire young people with one to three years of experience. Padhi says that they loved the fact that they got to work with the co-founders.

Sometimes leaving a well-cushioned job can be worth it. The first 20 people to join Talented were partners.

All your professional fears can be confessed by a co-founding partner. That is the way the quasi-adage works. Is it helpful?

There are no strict separations between the two. I think he's creative. He says that he has had more of an influence on our showreels.

When one isn't present, there is someone else to take over and make sure the agency's functioning stays smooth. Most of the time, the founder of an advertising agency works on all aspects of the business.

We haven't come in looking to build an empire, build some 200 people outfit, but have come by a common love for what we do, and hope if this takes off and goes in the direction it wants to go in, there is no better way to spend the last
