New AstraZeneca-backed report finds big money behind diverse owners and entrepreneurs in Europe

There is a lot of discussion about diversity and inclusion in business. The " Minority Businesses Matter: Europe" report was released by the Open Political Economy Network, which focuses on migration and diversity.

The report was commissioned by the European supplier diversity project It looked at the contributions and challenges of ethnic minority entrepreneurs and was sponsored by a number of companies.

The study looked at data from eight European countries. The compounded yield of these minority run businesses was around 570 billion euros in Europe.

This accounted for 4.7% of all businesses and employed over 2 million people. The Turkish owned COVID-19 vaccine producer BioNTech was included in Germany's total. India's Tej Tadi founded MindMaze, a medtech startup that aids the rehabilitation of people with neurological disorders, in Switzerland.

The co-founder of Qunomedical, a digital health platform that helps patients find the right doctor anywhere in the world, appreciates the kudos to the BioNTech founders but wonders how many more could have.

The Turkish immigrants in Germany are being celebrated by everyone because of their immigrant dream story. I think it's too short-sighted to say that it's possible because there are two people who have made it. Who are the people who could have made it but didn't because they didn't get the right chances or the same chance?

OPEN suggests three important recommendations to help level the field.

The first list of Europe's top 50 minority businesses was provided by the OPEN report. A report on U.K. minority businesses was published in February.
