Govt to announce 2022/23 sugar export quota

The sugar export quota will be announced very soon, said the Food Secretary.

He did not disclose the quantity of sugar exports that will be allowed for the 2022-23 marketing year (October-September).

There is a new export policy and quota for the 2022-23 marketing year.

The secretary spoke on the sidelines of the conference.

In May, the government imposed restrictions on the export of sugar, but later allowed another 1.2 million tonnes to be shipped.

In the 2020-21 marketing year, India exported 7 million tonnes of sugar, followed by 5 million and 3.8 million in the next two years.

The sugar production after the diversion of sugar for 2022-23 is estimated to be 35.5 million tonnes, according to the president of ISMA.

We can export 8 million tons of sugar in the next two decades. He said that they had urged the government to announce the export quota.

After March, Brazilian sugar will enter the global market.

The president of ISMA wrote a letter to the minister.

According to a preliminary estimate, the net sugar production will increase to about 40 million tonnes in 2022-23 from 39.4 million tonnes in the current marketing year.

In the 2022-23 marketing year, 4.5 million tonnes of sugar is expected to be diverted for corn, which is more than the 3.5 million tonnes in the current marketing year.

ISMA said the exports of surplus sugar would help in maintaining domestic sugar prices and boost the liquidity position of mills which would allow them to pay farmers on time.
