The two men vying to become Cuyahoga County's next executive, Democrat Chris Ronayne and Republican Lee Weingart, shared vastly different governing philosophies and policies they would pursue if elected. Ronayne claims to be a decades-long veteran of local institutions who wants to use his experience and connections. Weingart plans to use his experience as a lobbyist and as a former county commissioner, but is more interested in responding to taxpayers.

The June decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down abortion protections gave Democrats a boost. There is an open question as to whether that will translate into surprising results for Ohio's top races for governor and senate.

Two Lake County officials asked for manual for the county's voting machines shortly before and after an attempted data breach inside the county commissioner's office on the day of a special election. The Clerk of Courts sent an email to the board of elections requesting the same documents as the recorder.

The chief justice of the Ohio Supreme Court wants to end the practice of drawing lines in the state. We talked about O'Connor's State of the Judiciary address on Today in Ohio.

There are areas in Cleveland where continuous waterfront promenades could be created in the future. There is a proposal for a new language in the city'szoning code. Cleveland.com is owned by John Pana.

The Cleveland City Planning Commission took an important first step towards creating continuous waterfront promenades. Property owners in areas yet to be defined would be required to set back their buildings according to a specified distance from the water's edge.

In Ohio's school report cards, twelve districts spread across eight counties received a perfect score of five stars in each of five key categories. Four schools from the Cleveland area were included in the report.

Business and Healthcare

In Greater Cleveland, demand for the new COVID-19 booster is strong, but interest in the flu vaccine is lagging. Booster interest is increasing in health systems.

In August, Ohio's unemployment rate increased slightly to 4%. The unemployment rate went up in August.

The CDC has a map that shows Cuyahoga County and most of Greater Cleveland in a yellow state. Ashtabula and Lorain counties were classified red for the second week in a row.

The building that housed Dave's Market in Cleveland's Collinwood neighborhood was purchased last week. A company tied to a local grocery chain paid over a million dollars for an empty building.

Crime and Courts

The two East Cleveland police officers were indicted on multiple felony robbery charges on Friday, more than a year after they were arrested for stealing from a driver during a traffic stop. A grand jury charged two men with four counts of robbery and one with theft in office. An advocate for East Cleveland accused city police officials of corruption and urged authorities to pursue civil rights violations against officers who they say assault residents.

Arts and Entertainment

Kid Cudi held a music festival on Saturday in the Flats. Troy Smith wrote that it was a mind-changing feeling.

The Cleveland Arts Prize Board of Trustees has announced the award winners for the next two years. The lifetime achievement award goes to Gladisa Guadalupe, who had a long career in dance and was the principal at The Cleveland Ballet School.

For the first time in more than 25 years, one of the most stunning properties in the Edgewater neighborhood in Cleveland is up for sale. The mansion was completed in 1905 and has carvings, stone fireplaces, and leaded glass windows.
