Launch of first sustainable social media app, WeAre8

WeAre8 is a new social media platform that is free from hate, good for the planet and has the ability to put money in people's wallet.

In order to introduce the platform to Australia, WeAre8 has collaborated with a group of high-profile changemakers, including Adam Goodes, Adrian Eagle, and Sarah Wilson.

The theme of bringing people together will be the focus of exclusive content and expertise shared by the creators.

Lizzie Young says that technology and social media have divided us more than before. Our world is made smaller and more divided by the way we see things. It is not making us happy.

Goodes is an advocate for Indigenous Australians, a symbol of resilience and optimism, and an inspiring role model who works to create a better Australia for everyone.

He joined the We Are8 Advisory Board to share his experience with the family. The vision of WeAre8 is to celebrate what's good in our world and show our 8 Family the power of giving.

The changemaker announcement coincides with WeAre8's first above the line marketing campaign in Australia, which seeks to encourage Australians to trial a social media platform that is free from hate, is good for the planet, can put money in their wallet and celebrate the good in life.

What’s different about WeAre8?

Users can only view eight minutes of content on the 8Stage.

Community and collective development are promoted by the app.

8Citizens can follow creators from around the world or become a verified 8Creator and contribute to a more conscious social media community. Advertisers can pay users for opting in for ads. A feature in the app pays users for every ad they view. Users are able to make charitable donations.

WeAre8 tells people to take a break from their screens after eight minutes.

WeAre8 is the world's only carbon- negative social media platform, with 50 percent of profits going back to people's pockets through a revolutionary advertising experience, five percent to charities and five percent to a creator fund.

Hundreds of thousands of people have joined WeAre8 since it was launched in the UK earlier this year.
