The sequel to Double Fine's Psychonauts has been out for more than a year, and dedicated travelers of the mind have explored every inch of the game by now. They will be able to look at a lot of the scrapped content from the sequel.
Double Fine Director of Communications and Marketing James Spafford and iam8bit Director of Product and Retail Anna Bihari talked about the upcoming collector's edition with Screen Rant. Spafford talked about what long time fans could expect from the upcoming release. Spafford says the Collector's Edition will include information about the concepts that didn't make it to the final cut.
The digital download code for exclusive behind the scenes development concepts is included in the collector's edition. The concepts explore the history of the game, but they also include ideas that Double Fine couldn't implement during development. "I hope people find a lot of stuff that we cut from the game because we didn't have enough time to make it," he said. Various powers and plot points that didn't work out, but they all inform what the game became, so they all connect somewhere.
The Psychonauts 2 Collector's Edition will come with a number of collectibles for fans to display and admire. The game's box, a pack of stickers, six art cards, and a copy of the original Psychonauts are included. It's the first time that the original Psychonauts has been available on a console. Two posters, five pins, and a digital copy of the game's soundtrack are included in the package.
Psychonauts 2's Collector's Edition will be available on both the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game. iam8bit's Collector's Edition is not available on the PC.
